RAVEN PAYNE

Founder

Raven is the Founder of twenty40. She is as an English instructor at South Georgia Technical College, where she is also the lead instructor of the English department and the writer and co-director of the current Quality Enhancement Plan (a strategic initiative for improving student learning and engagement). She had the honor of serving as the 2015 Instructor of the Year and serving as a local and State advisor for the National Technical Honor Society. She is also a member of the Georgia Association for Developmental Education, the National Association for Student Success and a member of the Georgia Association of Women in Higher Education.

Raven is a graduate of Spelman College where she earned a BA in English with a minor in Comparative Women Studies; she holds a MS in Management with a concentration in Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness from Troy University; she recently earned a doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in Organizational Development from Grand Canyon University.


Raven is actively involved in the Americus-Sumter County community: past Vice Chair and member of the Sumter County Voter Registration and Board of Elections, board member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, and a panel judge for Columbus-Synovus Trust Company’s annual essay contest. Her past involvements have included: 2015 graduate of the Advancing Sumter Leadership Academy, Vice President of the Board for the Fuller Center for Housing and a board member of ALAI (Adult Literacy Action Initiative).


In addition to her community involvement, Raven was named one of Rural Leader magazine’s 2016 Forty under 40 Top Four; a 2017 Honorary council member for the City of Americus; May 2018 Georgia Economic Developers Association Young Professional Spotlight; the Winter 2018 feature story of the Americus magazine; the Spring 2019 feature story of the Sumter County Living magazine honored as a 2018 Community Trailblazer by the Omicron Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and has had the honor of being recognized by several other organizations throughout the Americus-Sumter County community for her commitment to community service.


Raven is also a writer and a speaker, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and actively involved in her family's business, Barnum Funeral Home, Inc. 

BRODRICK ENGRAM

Co-Founder

BroDrick is a hard worker and dedicated to the things that are important to him. He is a graduate of Sumter County Comprehensive High School and South Georgia Technical College, where he earned associate degrees in Marketing Management and Criminal Justice.

Many know BroDrick from his affiliation with Ruby Tuesday. BroDrick began his restaurant career at the early age of 18, at the Americus, GA Taco Bell as a crew member. After two months, he was promoted to team trainer and after showing strong leadership ability, he was promoted to Shift Leader after only one year of being a team trainer. After being transferred to the Albany, GA location, BroDrick was once again promoted to General Manager earning awards such as Restaurant Manager of the Year and the Albany Georgia’s Boys and Girls Club Restaurant of the Year.

Moving into a bigger role with a different company, Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, BroDrick began a Training Manager Program and traveled across the country training newly hired managers for the company.

Missing home, BroDrick decided to accept a position of Assistant Manager at the Americus, GA Ruby Tuesday. After spending 3 years in this position, he was promoted to Restaurant General Manager and in a short time has improved the restaurant in many different aspects (sales, pace and tickets time) earning him recognition as one of the Top 3 Restaurants in the district and named as one of the top 10 General Managers of his district. 

BroDrick is also an associate of Barnum Funeral Home.

DARRELL D. SABBS, JR.

Co-Founder

Hard-working, trustworthy and fun are only a few of the adjectives used to describe this young man! As a 1999 graduate of Americus High School, Darrell attended Morehouse College and later graduated from Albany State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. After graduating, Darrell worked for the Sumter County Schools as a high school math teacher and served as head swimming coach. After teaching for 3 years, he transitioned to South Georgia Technical College teaching math. Just recently, Darrell obtained an Associates of Science in Funeral Services from Ogeechee Technical College in the Spring of 2017.

Darrell currently works as an adjunct math instructor at South Georgia Technical College, and is preparing to operate as the chief executive officer at Barnum Funeral Home; a family business that has been in operation since 1905. Darrell is the father of two beautiful daughters, and serves as the Polemarch of the Americus-Sumter Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

JIMMY WHALEY

Leadership Member

Jimmy graduated from Southland Academy, and Valdosta State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Assistant Studies. While at Valdosta State he was in the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity and was also very involved with the Inter Fraternity Council as Recruitment Chair. He works with Century 21 Americus Realty as an Associate Broker. He is happily married to Morgan Whaley. Jimmy really loves being involved in the Americus community and willing to participate in many local organizations. Jimmy is currently President of the Americus Board of Realtors, President of Smarr and Smith Foundation, Former Secretary and current President for Rotary Club of Americus, Board Member for Pheobe Sumter Foundation, Board of Directors for Americus-Sumter Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of The Georgia Association of Realtors for Contracts Committee and Local and State Legislative Committee, Member of the Urban Redevelopment Committee for The City of Americus, Member of the Economic Vitality Committee for Downtown Americus and helps with several golf tournaments to raise money for great organizations such as The Georgia Sheriff Youth Homes and Georgia Southwestern Athletic Association. Jimmy has graduated from multiple leadership organizations which includes Leadership Sumter, Advancing Sumter and Young Gamechangers through Georgia Forward. Jimmy loves tailgating and is a huge Georgia Bulldog, Atlanta Braves, Miami Dolphins and Atlanta United fan. He also enjoys relaxing with friends while boating on Lake Collins.

TERENCE CLEMONS

Leadership Member

Terence J. Clemons was born and raised in Americus, Georgia.  He was educated in the public schools of Americus and Sumter County, where he graduated in 2006 from Americus Sumter High School- South Campus. He continued his education at Georgia Southwestern State University, where in 2010 he received a bachelor’s degree in Special Education/Psychology. In 2013 he received a Master’s degree from Concordia University. Currently, he is working on a Doctorate degree in Curriculum Instruction.

Terence presently teaches at Crisp County High School as a Special Education (Biology and Physical Science) teacher, and serves on the Special Education leadership team. He is on the Prom Committee, Drama Club and has chaired the Black History Program and Homecoming committees. Additionally,Terence is an Adjunct Instructor of Psychology at South Georgia Technical College located in Americus, GA. He is a Member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where he teaches the Sparks class at AWANA, a member of the Technology Ministry and serviced on the Strategic Planning Leadership board. Terence is very involved in many community projects. He is a Member of Sumter Mentor Partnership Volunteer, Sumter Friends of the Library, Lake Blackshear Library Board, SAMA Food Pantry volunteer, the board of directors of the Fuller Center for Housing, and Student African- American Brotherhood (SAAB). Terence graduated and is now a facilitator of the Advancing Sumter Leadership Academy. He is very proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha. He believes that you should always help others.

JENNIFER WILSON

Leadership Member

Jennifer Wilson is a Personal Banker for Wells Fargo Bank. Her career in banking began in mid 2013 and she has acquired several certifications since, such as Business Banking Advocate, Retail Banking Mentor, and Branch Manager Certification. 


Jennifer attended The Fort Valley State University where she majored in Political Science, minoring in Sociology. While attending college, she was an active member of the Student Government Association, Political Science Club, Debate Team, and was the Public Speaking Speak-Off Champion 2 years consecutively. 


Jennifer resides in Americus, GA, her native town.  She is currently preparing for her Georgia Health/Life Insurance Licensing with Wells Fargo, which will prepare her for one of her long term goals as the owner of her own Investment Company. 


She has and continues to volunteer for various organizations such as Habitat for humanity, PPYD (Professional Partners for youth development), Bethesda Missionary Church Youth Leadership program Phase 1, and Harvest of Hope, just to name a few. Jennifer is constantly devoted to  bettering herself and investing in the growth of her community. 

She believes that education, hard work and determination is what paves the path for the future.

WHITNEY KIMBROUGH

Leadership Member

Whitney Kimbrough is a native of Americus, Georgia. She graduated from Americus-Sumter High School as an Honor graduate and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s of Health Science: Health Services Administration degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Additionally, Whitney completed Albany State University’s Master of Public Administration program with a concentration in Community and Economic Development in December 2014.


Currently, Whitney is the Project Manager at Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education, INC. (SWGP), Albany, GA. Prior to joining the SWGP 2016, Whitney fulfilled roles such as Administrative Assistant, Project Manager, and Director of Community Development at Innovative Senior Solutions for five years.

Whitney has always had a heart to serve and is very active in her community: Americus-Sumter Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Locate South Georgia LEADS, partner with Sumter County Schools LEAP mentor program, facilitator for Advancing Sumter Leadership Academy and Youth in Action Leadership, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. With an adventurous spirit and inquisitive nature, Whitney loves to trot around the globe to learn from others, make new friends, and create lifelong memories.

JESSICA WRIGHT

Jessica Wright, RN, Chief Operating Officer is co-owner of Innovative Senior Solutions. Innovative Senior Solutions (ISS) was established in 2007, and it became the first licensed home care provider in Sumter County. Jessica is a Registered Nurse experienced in long-term care and healthcare management with over 10 years of experience. Jessica is an alumna of Darton College. With background experience in long-term care including every role of nursing from Certified Nursing Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse, each of these roles has provided invaluable knowledge, experience, and expertise with care for the elderly as well as health care management. In addition, Jessica is a founding board member of a non-profit organization, Caring 4 Seniors Foundation, with the mission of linking resources to keep Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities in their homes through community based care and services. Jessica has personally committed a lifelong devotion to the care of the elderly. She truly strives to make a difference in not only the client’s lives, but in the family lives, as well as the direct care staff. Jessica is a true visionary and humanitarian committed to a lifelong devotion to the care of the elderly.
